GMail Vacation Responder

Follow steps as below to setup auto responder.

1) Log into your gmail account.

2) Click on ‘Settings’ link in your gmail home page at the top-left. (Last but one link to ‘Sign-out’ link).

3) In ‘Settings’ page you can find ‘Vacation Responder’ section. By default Vacation Responder will be off.

a) Click on ‘Vacation Responder On’

b) Enter first day and End day, during which you want to send vacation responder.

c) Enter Subject, which will act as subject to your vacation responder.

d) Enter Message that you want to convey. May be saying ‘I am in vaction now, will get back to you as soon as I am in’.

c) Optionally you have an option to send Vacation Responder to only contacts in your inbox by checking the check box, below message edit box. Otherwise Vacation responder will be sent to every mail you receive.

Thats it all set go enjoy your vacation :)

To save battery power or life, we need to keep in mind, ‘Use only when needed’.

Following are few tips to save battery power life:

1) Reduce your display brightness.

Go to Settings -> Display -> Brightness.

Touch Brightness and reduce to suit your needs.

2) Use Wi-Fi when needed.

Go to Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Wi – Fi

uncheck wi-fi option, to turn off wi-fi

check wi-fi option, when you need it again.

3) Use Bluetooth when needed.

Go to Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Bluetooth

uncheck Bluetooth option, to turn off Bluetooth

check Bluetooth option, when you need it again.

4)   Use 2G mobile network, when hi-speed data network is not required.

Go to Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Mobile Networks -> Use only 2G networks

check ‘Use only 2G networks’ to enable 2G mobile network.

uncheck ‘Use only 2G networks’  to use 3G mobile network.

5) Use GPS when needed.

Go to Settings -> Locaiton & Security -> Use GPS satellites

Uncheck ‘Use GPS satellites’ to turn off GPS.

Check ‘Use GPS Satellites’ to turn of GPS.

How to uninstall applications from android phone ?
There is no direct shortcut provided by android OS to uninstall applications. Following are some of tips to uninstall applications.

1) Go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications.

In this page you can see all downloaded applications on your phone. Touch application name you will be presented with Applicaion Info page, where in you can see ‘Uninstall’ button.

2) Go to android market, and search for application you installed earlier. Click on application, you will be presented with ‘uninstall’ button.
This standard way of uninstalling application presents you a feedback page asking reason for uninstalling application.

3) Android market has plenty of applications which ‘uninstall’, intalled applications on your andriod phone.

‘Fast Uninstaller‘ is one of best application for this choice.
‘Fast uninstaller‘ lists applications installed, with date and size. you can simply select application and click ‘OK’ button.
Application will be uninstalled no hassle of presenting with feedback page.

3) Following are some of few other easy uninstall applications present in andriod market.

b) AppRemover

All popular web browsers such as Internet Explorer (since version 7), Mozilla Firefox (since 2001), Safari (since 2003), Google Chrome (since 2008) and Opera (since 2000) supports tabbed browsing.

Following are Key Board Shortcut keys for Navigating between Tabs in Web Browsers:

Internet Explorer provides another short cut to move between tabs. Short key Ctrl+Q helps to view thumb images of all tabs present in a Browser window, and a click on any thumb image will give focus to that tab. In IE terminolgy this feature is named as ‘Quick Tabs’.

Following are some search tips for Gmail messages.

Searching based on E-Mail Headers:

a) use to:{emailid} or to:{contactname} for searching emails that you sent for a specific person.
Ex: to:jacob@gmail.com or to:chetan
b) use from:{emailid} or from:{contactname} for searching emails that are from a specific person.
Ex: from:sjoe@yahoo.com or from:San
c) use subject:{text} for searching emails which has subject
Ex: subject:resume
will list out all emails which have subject resume.
Similarly you can search for bcc: or cc:

Searching for Attachments:

a) use has:attachment , to search all email messages which have attachments attached to them.
b) use filename:doc , to search for email messages with attachments and the attachment file name contains doc.
c) you can combine both searches.
Ex: has:attachment filename:pdf

Searching based on Date:

Searching based on date requires you to put date format in yyyy/mm/dd
a) after:2009/02/09 will search for all emails after 09 Feb 2009, but not on the date.
b) before:2009/02/09 will search for all emails that came before 09 Feb 2009, but not on the date.

Boolean operators can also be used while searching in Gmail.
Ex: to:Dany subject:(stocks|news)
above search query searches for emails which are sent to Dany and with subject messages either stocks or news.

Gmail searching by default excludes Trash and Spam messages, if you want to include these folders, use in:anywhere with your search query.
Ex: from:Dany in:anywhere
